Summer Wedding Hairstyle Trends

Apr 29, 2010

bridalhairLate spring and summer are the most popular months of the year to get married, which isn’t surprising since they open up the opportunity for outdoor ceremonies and receptions, such as elegant flowering gardens and beach side weddings. One of the biggest challenges of a summer wedding is deciding on how to wear your hair. You want something that will be cool and comfortable, but still elegant.  It should be something that can stand up to high heat and humidity, and will stay put all day long. Here are three of our favorite summer wedding hairstyle trends:

Simple Up Do – pulling your hair up in a bun or a classic chignon is an easy way to beat the heat. There are entire books filled with pictures of wedding up dos, so you won’t have to look far for inspiration. It’s also easy to keep in place – since the hair doesn’t need to move you can use extra hairspray to combat the heat!

The Grown Up Pony – When you first hear the words “pony tail” it makes you think of grade school and going to the gym, but there are plenty of grown up and elegant ways to do a pony. Create a low pony tail to the side and decorate it with a few flowers for a simple and beautiful hair style.

Bridal Braids – Skip the pigtails and go for a loose and elegant braid that just pulls some of your hair back from your face, for a romantic feel. For more formal weddings, you can do a French braid or more elaborate hairstyle that will keep you feeling and looking cool all day.

Planning A Christmas Proposal

Dec 11, 2009

208384_mias_ringWe love hearing proposal stories! Asking your sweetie to marry you is romantic any time of the year, but there’s something extra special about a Christmas proposal that we can’t get enough of. If you’re planning on getting engaged in the next few weeks, we wanted to share a few of our favorite ways of proposing during the holidays!

  • Find a unique way to wrap your extra special Christmas gift! You can tuck it in the bottom of her Christmas stocking, or put it inside box after box and make her work for her present. You could even put it inside a giant box and then fill the rest of the box with tinsel or packing peanuts so she has to search for the ring.

  • Ask her with lights. One of our co-workers recently asked his girlfriend to marry him in the cutest way. She took her family to a local park that does a walk through holiday light display. He was waiting near the end with his own light display that said “Will you marry me?” and completely surprised her! You can do the same thing at your local park, on your house, or even in the back yard.

  • Hide the ring in your tree, or place it strategically when she’s decorating so that she stumbles across it, and then propose in front of the tree.

What are some of your favorite holiday proposals? Let us know in the comments and we’ll share the best ones!

Would You Have A Christmas Wedding?

Nov 27, 2009

Long gloves at a winter wedding are an elegant touch!

Long gloves at a winter wedding are an elegant touch!

While I was reading all the Black Friday ads yesterday, I started fawning over a lot of the elegant Christmas decorations that were on sale. I started to look for pieces that might make good wedding décor, when I realized that many of the samples in the ads would look amazing at a Christmas wedding!

But would you even want a holiday wedding? There are a lot of downsides. Many guests might not be willing to travel or take time off so close to Christmas and New Years. There’s also the danger that they might not be able to make it if there is inclement weather to worry about! You’d also have to be ok with you anniversary sharing the spotlight with Christmas each year.

Perfect for a Christmas wedding!

But if none of those are a concern for you, I think a Christmas wedding would be fantastic! You could deck out your ceremony and reception in fragrant greenery and twinkle lights. Christmas ornaments would make easy and affordable favors. You could even display them on a Christmas tree!

I also love the dresses you have available to you for a winter wedding. Long sleeves or long white gloves make a sophisticated statement. I’d love to see the Justin Alexander 8467 pictured here at a Christmas wedding.

What do you think? Has anyone else been to or is planning a holiday wedding?

Feel Like A Princess On Your Wedding Day

Aug 26, 2009

Your wedding day isn’t exactly an everyday event, and it’s important to plan your wedding day exactly how you want it. Many brides say they’d love to look like a princess on their wedding day, and at Dimitra Designs, we’re all for granting their fairytale wishes! One of our favorite ways to help brides dress like a pretty princess is to help the bride choose a beautiful wedding tiara.

Before your select just any tiara, there’s several points to keep in mind:

1. Type of Tiara – This will usually depend on the amount of accessories you’re wearing. If you decide to wear understated earrings or a necklace, you may want to go for a taller, more intricate tiara. The headband style tiaras are equally exquisite, and look best for brides who want a more simple look or are already wearing many beautiful accessories. Our 9420 Bridal Tiara has a very regal look, while the 499 Bridal Tiara features the headband style.

2. Color – The classic look of a bride dressed in white from head-to-toe is beautiful, but you may want to inject some color in your tiara. Check out our 455 Bridal Tiara that features light purple and blue accents.

3. Personality - Every wedding tiara has a different personality. For the bride who wants to feel like a exquisite princess, we suggest the 9414 Bridal Tiara. Traditional brides will love the pearly 443 Bridal Tiara, and the adventurous types among us will undoubtedly be enraptured by the 448 Bridal Tiara, featuring gold, blue, and purple accents.
