The Dos and Don’ts of Your Wedding Day Make-Up

Oct 11, 2013

Planning the perfect wedding requires making what seems like a million uber important decisions. While the groom might disagree with the life-altering level of gravity, we don’t! While you fuss and flutter over every last detail, your bridal accessories and make-up shouldn’t be a stressor. We’ve got some solid make-up tips that will have you glowing when that magical day finally arrives!

* Bring references to your make-up trial. Start looking for images of make-up that you really like, and bring them with you on the day.

* Focus on the most important elements of your look, such as beautifully natural-looking skin, softly groomed brows and feathery lashes. If you get these basic factors right, the rest of your make-up will fall into place.

* Wear a white t-shirt if you’re having your make-up tested in a store, so that you can see how the make-up looks against a pale color.

* Have your make-up test done anywhere with overhead fluorescent lighting.

* Just apply make-up to your face. Instead, extend down your neck and over your shoulders if necessary, this will ensure you face is not a different color or even texture to your body.

* Go for anything too trendy. You have to live with these photos forever!

* Rush. Allow at least 45 minutes to an hour for make-up application on the wedding day.

Looking your best, from your wedding dress down to the very last bridal accessories, need not be a stressor.

Follow these simple rules and you’ll look picture perfect on your wedding day! What are some of your wedding day dos and don’ts? Let us know in the comments below.

There’s a Spider in My Wedding Dress & Other Wedding Superstitions

Oct 4, 2013

In the past we’ve talked about some timeless wedding traditions, such as the bride wearing something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue. These are only a small handful of traditions and superstitions that are followed throughout an engagement and wedding ceremony. Here are some lesser known superstitions that have been followed for years by brides and grooms.

According to Greek culture, tucking a sugar cube into your bridal gloves will sweeten your marriage.

Have you ever heard the rhyme, “To change the name and not the letter is to change for the worst and not the better”? This means that it’s bad luck if both the grooms and brides last names start with the same letter.

The English believe that it a sign of good luck if the bride finds a spider in her wedding dress.

Have you ever wondered why engagement and wedding rings are worn on the fourth finger of the left hand? It was once thought that a vein in that finger led directly to the heart.

Bells are chimed at Irish weddings to keep away evil spirits and to ensure the couple has a happy family life.

Not engaged? No worries! Legend has it that if a single woman sleeps with a slice of groom’s cake under their pillows they’ll dream of their future husband.

Stay tuned for more fun and interesting wedding traditions and superstitions from! Does your family have a tradition that’s carried out at every wedding? Let us know with a comment.

Choosing the Best Dress for Your Wedding Rehearsal Dinner

Jun 7, 2013

Your wedding rehearsal is time to relax in the eye of the storm of organizing and making final preparations for the big day. Though still a formal affair and certainly a great time to have cameras ready, a playful evening with close friends and relatives lets you celebrate their contributions to the commitment you’re preparing to make. The right wedding rehearsal dinner dress ensures you’ll look your best for the photos, and make a memorable impression on in-laws and other new people entering your life.

Choosing the Best Dress for the Occasion

* Brides-to-be will want to tone down the formality of the rehearsal with a fun look.

* If you’re absolutely set on white, it may be best to choose a rehearsal dinner dress that shows a bit more leg and includes a ruffled hem or feather skirt.

* You might also go with a strapless rehearsal dinner dress and ruched dress that hugs your curves or something with more of a sun dress feel.

You’ll find these and many other options from the Jordan Moments and Love Bridesmaids collections of wedding rehearsal dinner dresses at Enjoy your rehearsal celebration in style with a wedding rehearsal dinner dress that’s fit for royalty!

Guide for the Bride: The Dos & Don’ts of Bridal Gown Shopping – Part 2

Jan 24, 2013

Last week we went over some of the things a bride should do as she’s shopping for a bridal gown. This week, in the second part of our Guide for the Bride blog series we’ll go over some of the don’ts of bridal gown shopping.

Don’t judge a dress by its cover. You won’t know if that tea length wedding gown will look amazing unless you try it on. Don’t bypass a dress that’s hanging on the rack just because you don’t think it will look right on you.  A bridal gown looks completely different on the body than it does hanging off the rack. Don’t limit yourself just because you don’t like it on the rack.

Don’t try on too many gowns. Don’t try on dress after dress. It’s a common mistake for brides to try on too many gowns in one appointment. This usually leads to an overwhelmed bride who might have known what she wanted when she first came in, but by the end of the appointment, has no idea.

Don’t be influenced by others. This is your day to shine and you should be in love with your wedding dress. Not your maid of honor, mother, mother-in-law, or anyone else who’s dress shopping with you.

Try to keep the entourage at home. We understand that you want to hear the opinions from close family and friends, as you try on wedding dress, but you may want to rethink this decision. The more people you bring to your appointment, the more opinions that could sway your final decision, which in the end is your decision to make and fall in love with!

At Dimitra Designs Bridal Emporium we have bridal consultants who specialize in making you feel beautiful and prepared for your special day. The Brides Guide to Rehearsal Dinner Dresses

Jan 10, 2013

More often than not the rehearsal dinner is an after thought for some brides. Many of us get so caught up in the excitement of the big day that we forget how important and memorable the rehearsal dinner actually is. Choosing a rehearsal dinner dress is an important part of preparing for the event. Here are some things to keep in mind as you choose your dress for the rehearsal dinner.

- What type of rehearsal dinner will you be having? Will it be an intimate event or an extravagant soiree? The type of party you’re throwing sets the tone for what type of dress the bride should wear.

- The dress you wear to the rehearsal dinner should be different than your wedding dress. As you’re shopping, look for a dress with characteristics unlike your wedding gown. For example, if your wedding dress is sleek and sophisticated, choose a rehearsal dinner dress that has fun details like a ruffled skirt.

- A rehearsal dinner is usually a more casual affair than the wedding, so think of delicate details, like a short cocktail dress or a pastel colored evening dress.

- Most importantly, choose a dress that you’re comfortable in. If you’re uncomfortable then you’re going to appear that way to the guests at your rehearsal dinner.

Dimitra Designs Bridal Emporium has a wonderful selection of rehearsal dinner dresses. Call us toll free at 866-866-0968 or stop by our Greenville, SC bridal store to learn more about how Dimitra Designs can help you choose the best dress for your rehearsal dinner.

What Are Your Bridesmaids Wearing?

Mar 22, 2012

Just as you want to wear the perfect dress as you profess your “I do’s,” you also want the ladies standing alongside you to look beautiful too. This year it’s all about bright colors, beads, and short bridesmaid dresses.

Black – You cannot go wrong with black. Brides are choosing black to flatter the many shapes and sizes of their bridesmaids and for the elegant look it brings to the altar.

White – Believe it or not, many brides love the all white look for their bridesmaids. Maid of Honor Pippa Middleton made this color famous again!

A coral, strapless dress is a chic bridesmaid option!

Bright Colors – It’s all about the rainbow. From coral to raspberry sorbet; teal to lime green, brides are going all out with their color palette when it comes to dresses.

Short – Straying away from the long dress, short bridesmaid dresses are picking shorter styles for the wedding party. The trend of spry tanning shows of toned legs and gives the party a less formal appearance.

Strapless – For all the spring and summer brides, strapless is in. Make sure your bridesmaids dresses fit properly so they do not need to keep pulling up!

Depending on the body structure of your bridesmaids, you may want to choose a safe and chic option. It is helpful to have an idea of what you’re looking for and in what color before you begin your dress shopping excursions with the group of woman!

Be the Picture Perfect Bride in Sottero & Midgley Bridal Dresses

Jan 26, 2012

A bride on her wedding day must always be “photo ready” since it may be the most photographed day of your life. The beautiful gowns by Sottero and Midgley Tracey will be sure to make you look absolutely flawless on one of the happiest days of your life.

The photos you have from your wedding day will be treasured memories you will have the rest of your life. It isn’t all about you just looking stunning but also about the right locations to capture these precious memories.

We have listed our top five locations to take your wedding photos.

Large fields with an open blue sky – Fields of flowers, tall grass, or even wheat can be the ideal place for a gorgeous photo. Picture you and your partner off center in the photo, kissing with the big open blue sky or perhaps some mountains behind you.

Colorful alleyways – Rustic alleys with bright colored doors and windows make for a gorgeous photo. Also, brick walls look very modern in photos. You or your husband can lean up against the wall and kiss for a cute and classy photo!

Train tracks – Walking together on the train tracks, bouquet in hand is a beautiful photograph. This would look even lovelier with the sunset in front of you. Train tracks are a classic but please be careful!

Near bodies of water- Whether it be a lake, pond, or ocean, the water is a gorgeous backdrop for your photos. Again, the sunset would only enhance this beautiful photo.

Archways and Gazebos – This is probably the most classic wedding photo of all. You and your lovely can stand under the archway holding hands or dancing for an always beautiful photo.

These are some of our favorite places to take photos. Please share with us your favorite places as well. Also, make sure to pick your picture perfect Sottero and Midgley Tracey dress at!

Last Minute Gifts Ideas for the Bride Shopping Designer Wedding Dresses

Dec 23, 2011

The dress you want - and the holiday of your dreams as well!

We’re sure you’ve been scrimping and saving by shopping designer wedding dress sales, checking all the local wedding deals sites, and seeing what you can make on your own for the wedding, which makes exchanging presents a touchy subject for many prospective brides and grooms.

If you’re feeling a little lack luster about your current gifts, whether because you’ve just been too busy working on the wedding preparations or you promised to not spend too much on each other, there’s still a few ways you can make it a special Christmas.

-  If you have picked out your wedding dress, give him a little teaser with a book of close up shots of the dress and details. Print out the photos and punch a hole to tie a ribbon through. Make a cover that says, “Just a taste of what’s to come. Can’t wait!”

-  Create a cute and quick coupon book of wedding free passes. For  example, “One decision, all you, no complaints,” and “One stress free afternoon together, no wedding talk needed.”

-  Spend all Christmas day referring to each other as Mr. and Mrs. You can even go through and start changing out old account information and preferences to “Married” statuses!

While your Christmas together really will be one that will be remembered forever, don’t ignore this year’s Christmas. Have a very special Christmas together!

Celebrate the Joining of Your Two Families!

    Sep 8, 2011

Marriage is about more than just you and your soul mate creating a new life together. You’re also creating a new family between the two you come from! It’s important to recognize both – and show how you love each one equally!

    Quality Time
Bring both moms out for dress shopping. Sure… you’ll get lots of time together if your moms are helping with the wedding – but those are stressful times. Together the three of you can bond over a fun day of shopping for mother of the bride dresses – getting to know each other better in a stress-free environment.

    Ceremonial Celebrations
Incorporate both of sets of parents into the wedding ceremony. While a traditional wedding only has the father of the bride involved by giving away the bride – you can recognize your parents in many ways. One way to do that is symbolically show the joining of your two families. During the ceremony you can call up all of your parents and spill different colored sand into a jar, creating one whole beautiful sand jar that represents your new family. Make it even more personal by choosing something more individualized to you to make your jar, like spices for a cooking family or beads for an artsy family.

Join hands and families on your wedding day! How do you plan on blending your two families for the wedding?
