Spring Looks to Watch For

Feb 26, 2010

Having a semi formal or an early prom? Then make sure you’re on top of all of the latest trends in makeup, hair, and nails so that you’ll look your best for the occasion! At DressProm.net, we’ve just gotten wind of some of the hottest looks on the runways, not to mention, hitting the streets soon! Here are our top trends to watch:

Romance: Pure, romantic touches are going to be big this spring as many designers look to play with feminine silhouettes and fabrics. Expect to see a lot of 1940’s inspired pieces, as well as chiffon and floral fabrics. In hair, romance will be making an appearance in the form of soft curls and loose waves elegantly tamed by a pretty hair accessory.

Nudes: During Fashion Week, many celebs and fashionistas alike showed up to events in nudes and neutrals, showing that there’s going to be a shift to simpler, cleaner pieces in soft shades. Nude nail polish, shoes, and gowns are sure to be on the horizon. On a related note, ballet-inspired fashions, makeup, hair, and nail colors are also making a comeback.

Organics: Everyone is going green and your makeup case is no exception. Organic skincare, haircare, and makeup are really making headway this season, so consider giving some of these eco-chic products a try. They’re good for the planet and they’re free of harsh chemicals that can affect your hair and skin over time.

Since this gown is so elegantly embellished, you’ll want to go a little lighter on the accessories. Try working with a pair of rhinestone dangle earrings and a few rhinestone bangles. Your dress will do a lot of the talking on prom night.

As for hair and makeup? Go with a bold, matte red lip in a shade that flatters your skin tone with just a touch of blush and simple eyes. For hair, go with something bold if you’re feeling daring, like a playful pixie cut. Or, if you’d rather something more elegant, a sweeping updo is perfect.

Get a Retro Look for Prom

Feb 6, 2010

Retro chic is all the rage right now and if you’re gearing up for prom, think about making vintage screen sirens your inspiration for the complete ensemble. Not sure how you can get the look? Let DressProm.net help with these f0ur tips to getting the perfect retro look, just in time for prom:

  1. Pouty Red Lips – these are a staple for any vintage vixen. Get the look by choosing a matte red lipstick in a color that compliments your skin tone. Keep the look clean by using lip liner first. Or, if you want to get some extra plump for your pout, consider using a lip color that comes with a built-in plumper to get pillowy, beautiful lips.

  2. Classic Pearls – there’s nothing prettier than a set of pearls on prom night. Try finding a set that compliments your dress length and looks simple and pretty. Go with a bracelet and earring combo if you’ve got an interesting neckline on your dress, or if you have a strapless gown, wear a layers set in a choker style to get the look.

  3. Big Curls – channel your inner Marilyn Monroe and style your hair in beautiful, big curls. Try using large curls all throughout your hair like your favorite pinup, or you can choose to add just a few in the front to get a rockabilly style ala Gwen Stefani.

  4. Kitten Heels – very dainty and proper, this style of shoe is great for prom night. Wear them with tea-length or shorter prom dresses to get a very classic, retro look. Go for a style with lot of embellishments or a pointy toe to dress it up.
