The Right Bra for your Prom Dress

Feb 28, 2011

Keep your undergarments hidden with the right bra

Keep your undergarments hidden with the right bra

You focus a lot on picking out the right prom dress—but finding the right bra for that prom dress is just as important!  If you’re not sure what type of bra you should be wearing on prom night, we’re here to help.  After all, we’re Dress Prom.  We help you dress for the prom!

Strapless of bandeau

A strapless prom dress requires a strapless bra!  (That just makes sense.)  Look for a bra that includes some boning in the band and the sides of the cups.  This will help support you without shoulder straps.  Some strapless bras also come with adhesive strips.

Plunging neckline

It’s difficult to find the right bra to wear with a plunging neckline.  Find a demi-cup bra with an underwire and some extra padding.  Be sure to bring your prom dress with you when you’re trying bras on.  You don’t want to buy something that doesn’t work.

If your prom dress is backless, you’ll need to look for a strapless and bandless bra.  This kind of bra will certainly have adhesive taps on the cup linings to keep it in place.

Silhouette hugging

If your prom dress is very clingy, you’ll want to wear a full-torso bra.  This kind of undergarment extends from your breasts all the way down to your hip bones.  This will smooth your curves and keep you looking fabulous.

Halter neck

You need to wear a halter bra if your dress has this kind of neckline.

Dressing a Tall Figure

Feb 24, 2011

Look great no matter what!

Look great no matter what!

Prom season is on its way, and it’s time to start thinking about dates and prom dresses.  You have a little more control over your dress than you do over your date—so you should focus on what you can.  If you happen to be one of the taller ladies out there, you might wonder how to deal with a date that’s a little shorter than you.  Here at Dress Prom, we have prom gowns for girls of every shape and size.  If you’re a little taller, here are some tips to downplay your height.  (Your short date will thank you for it!)

  • Choose a prom dress with a long top portion.  This will help to visually shorten your legs.
  • If you’re going with a pattern, choose something that has a horizontal slant to it.  If you wear something more vertical, that will serve to elongate your figure.   You’re trying to look shorter, so horizontal is the way to go.
  • Try mixing light and dark shades.  The contrast will help to visually shorten your shape, as well.
  • It should go without saying, but consider wearing flat shoes instead of heels.  If you’re wearing a full ball gown, you can wear flat shoes and nobody will even notice!
  • Avoid a monochromatic prom look.
  • Pick prom dresses with large details.  They’ll make your body look smaller by contrast.

Do you have any other tips for dressing a taller figure?

Tips for Dressing your Broad Shoulders

Feb 7, 2011

It's easy to find the right prom dress at Dress Prom

It's easy to find the right prom dress at Dress Prom

We’ve been spending the past few weeks talking about the best ways to dress different body types.  We want to make sure you get the right dress from Dress Prom, so we’re going to be giving some advice to girls with broad shoulders today.  We know how difficult it can be to find the right neckline when you have broad shoulders.  Rest assured, we’ll help you find the right prom dress for any silhouette.

Ladies with broad shoulders should note that the collar and neckline of your dress will directly affect the visual impression of your shoulders.  A plunging (but not too plunging!) V-neck is the best choice for girls with broad shoulders.  A deep V-neck extends your neckline downward, and that actually creates the illusion of a narrower shoulder.

If you’re not comfortable with a V-neck, a scooping neckline can achieve a similar result.  A scooping neckline on your prom dress can help to shrink your shoulder.  By showing more of your neckline, you can make it look longer.  When your neck looks longer, your shoulders look narrower.

Darker colors work best with broad shoulders.  Don’t worry, black isn’t your only option!  You can choose purple, blue, and other darker hues, as well.

Look through our selection of prom dresses, and you’re sure to find the one that’s best for you and your shoulders!
