Miss Georgia: 22 year old Carly Mathis dreams of earning a Juris Doctor Degree and becoming a political or legal correspondent for a national news network. With a long list of scholastic honors from the University of Georgia, Mathis has made her hometown of Leesburg proud. Her platform issue is heart health and heart safety; an issue which is close to her heart because it afflicts her family.

Miss Hawaii: Crystal Lee hails from Waipahu and will be sharing her talent of contemporary dance with the judges. Educated at the University of Hawaii, Lee is focusing on her platform of “Promoting the Gift of Life: Educating the Public about the Importance of Giving Blood.” She also hopes to become fluent in French and achieve success as an executive in the world of advertising and promotions.

Miss Indiana: Terrin Zoe Thomas is working toward obtaining a master’s degree in journalism from Indiana University and becoming a journalist for a major television network. At the tender age of 20, Thomas is supporting a platform of “Promoting Service-Learning: Connecting Academics and Volunteerism.” She’ll be singing for the judges and making her family and friends in Auburn very proud.

Miss Iowa: Keokuk, Iowa’s Nicole Kelly brings an inspiring tale to the stage—her own. At 23 years of age, Kelly has already interned with theater companies in New York City and Chicago, acted in a Tony-nominated Broadway play, and become an accomplished singer. She has done all of this while overcoming the difficulties of a physical handicap—being born without a forearm. Her platform issue highlights overcoming difficulties and she’ll be representing the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

We wish the best of luck to all of the contestants when they appear this September in the 2014 Miss America Pageant. One of the biggest pageants in the land is only a few weeks away! Join us next time for an introduction to more remarkable women who will take the stage on September 15th.
