Let DressProm Help you Budget for your Prom in 2017

Apr 27, 2017

Prom is one of the most memorable events of your high school career, but it’s certainly not the cheapest occasion. Many girls struggle with wanting to create a night that they’ll never forget, complete with the perfect dress, without going over budget. However, with some smart planning and a bit of expertise from DressProm, you can get everything you want for prom night while still sticking to a spending plan. Here’s how to budget for prom in the DressProm way.

  • The Dress. For most girls, the dress is the most important — and most expensive — piece of the prom puzzle. We recommend setting aside between $100 and $600 to spend on a prom dress, depending on your overall budget and your personal tastes. While it is fairly easy to find an affordable prom dress with so many options on the market today, it’s also very possible to skim some money from the rest of your budget if you decide to splurge on a pricier designer dress. At the end of the day, it’s all up to you.
  • The Accessories. We recommend budgeting $100 or less for accessories, shoes included. Most people won’t even look at your accessories once they see your gorgeous dress, so it’s much more worthwhile to allot any extra cash toward your dress. Use your accessory budget to pick up some matching shoes, simple jewelry and a handy purse to carry your essentials in.

  • Hair and Makeup. While many girls choose to get their hair and makeup done for prom, it’s certainly not an essential part of the process. On average, a hair and makeup appointment costs about $150 to $250 at a salon, which is just not in the budget for many people. To cut costs while still getting a great beauty look, visit a makeup counter at the local mall and take advantage of the free makeovers, or enlist a friend or family member who is particularly good at hair to give you a simple up-do.
  • The Flowers. On average, a corsage costs between $35 and $45, while a boutonniere costs between $15 and $20. Whether you’re going with a date or a friend, you’ll likely want to set aside some cash to give them some flowers.
  • The Pre-Prom. Most people participate in at least some type of pre-prom activity, whether it be taking photos, renting a limo or going out to dinner (if your school doesn’t provide one).

Prom Styles – Off the Shoulder and Two-Piece

Apr 18, 2017

We’re always staying up-to-date on the latest prom dress styles here at DressProm and this year we’ve noticed a big shift in the fashion industry toward shoulder-bearing frocks that show just a bit of skin. Off-the-shoulder and two-piece styles are the perfect way to show off your collarbone and shoulders if those are your best features and they look perfect with a statement necklace or a long, wavy hairstyle. Here’s everything you need to know about these sultry prom dress styles.

Off-the-Shoulder
This particular style is halfway between a dress with sleeves and a sleeveless dress. It features anything from cap sleeves to long sleeves to spaghetti straps, but the sleeves are pushed off the shoulder and situated a bit lower on the arms to create an off-the-shoulder effect that many girls love.

Designers like Blush and Mori Lee are particularly fond of the off-the-shoulder look for its young, sexy style and its versatility. These big name dress brands create glamorous prom dresses featuring off-the-shoulder bodices decorated with swirls of sequins, edgy gowns with long, tight sleeves and off-the-shoulder tops or even boho-style frocks with off-the-shoulder sleeves with bell shapes at the ends.

Two-Piece
If your belly is your best feature, show it off in a fun, classy way at the prom with a two-piece dress that shows just a peek of midriff. These unique and modern styles are best for daring girls, as they really lean more toward the contemporary look than the traditional.

Some two-piece dresses feature tank tops in a matching pattern or a solid shade that pairs well with the skirt, while others come with elaborately decorated bodices covered in beading, sequins and embroidery. DressProm even carries two-piece prom dresses with long sleeves to balance out the shorter length of the top portion. Prom dress designers like Rachel Allan and Faviana particularly love the two-piece prom dress trend.

Great Gatsby and Other Themed Dresses for 2017

Apr 14, 2017

For the girl with a flair for the dramatic, you may want to go with a themed prom dress for your big prom night. You can choose to go all out with your theme by pairing your dress with matching accessories, or just stick to a subtle theme that will help you to stand out while still staying on trend. DressProm carries a wide selection of great themed prom dresses, but these are a few of our favorites.

  • “The Great Gatsby”. The Roaring ‘20s styles of “Gatsby” are always some of our most popular, but this theme has seen even more popularity in recent years. If you want to create a glamorous flapper style that Daisy Buchanan would be proud of, check out DressProm’s selection of “Great Gatsby” dresses featuring beads, sequins and feathers galore. These dresses feature shorter hemlines and shift shapes, as well as the occasional floor length with Art Deco details. No matter which type you choose, you’ll look like you’re ready to head to the speakeasy in your flapper frock.
  • “Alice in Wonderland”. Literary buffs will also adore the down-the-rabbit-hole stylings of DressProm’s “Alice”-themed dresses. These colorful, whimsical frocks perfectly embody the Queen of Hearts or even Alice herself with their bright, bold shades, wide, flared skirts and large prints and patterns.
  • Carnival. For a truly larger-than-life dress theme, try out one of DressProm’s popular carnival dresses. These are reminiscent of the costumes carnival performers wear because of their swirls of pastel colors, ruffled details and long, flowing skirts.
  • Hollywood. Want to look like you just stepped off of the red carpet? Then slip into one of DressProm’s Hollywood-influenced prom dresses. These fancy frocks are fit for a starlet with their gold or jewel tones, sequined details and long, dramatic lengths.
