More Than Just Pretty Pageant Gowns

Apr 16, 2012

It's brains, not just beauty.

It's brains, not just beauty.

When you watch a beauty pageant you may think that these women are judged simply on their pretty faces, pageant dresses, and poise, but in fact they’re being judge on much more. Most pageants are more than just pretty dresses and faces. Today, many beauty pageant contestants are helpful by volunteering for causes and in their communities.

Pageant contestants are active humanitarians. In fact, many contestants must “advocate a platform” and explain their favorite cause to the judges. This is taken in high consideration by the judges when it comes time to make a decision on who will win the crown. Pageants are about how the contestant can help her community or organization while remaining kind, generous, and poised.

You may think that a pageant queen’s life revolves around beauty pageants, but in most cases she competes in a pageant about every two months. Between competing in pageants the contestant is devoting many hours a week to her platform. She is an advocate for the cause and educates her community and others about what she believes in.

So, the next time you attend a pageant and you’re gasping at how gorgeous the contestant looks in her pageant dress, pay attention to what cause she is promoting, see if you’re on the same side on issues as she is, and know that she is just more than a pretty face in a beautiful gown. This beauty queen is a humanitarian and is concerned about helping others!

10 Tips for Proper Pageant Etiquette

Oct 14, 2011

In order to win a crown, pageant girls have to show the judges that they are poised, proper, educated young women. To do this you must be educated in proper pageant etiquette. Next time you’re standing on stage in your pageant dress, remember to practice winning etiquette.

  1. pageant dress 2012Always be polite. Instead of blurting something out, think about what you’re going to say. Is there anything unladylike about it? Would you be offended, hurt or upset if someone said it to you? If you answered yes to any of those questions, what you’re about to say isn’t polite and so refrain from saying it.
  2. Never forget to say please and thank you. Not only is this an important part of pageant etiquette, saying please and thank you is simply a part of minding your manners.
  3. Maintain eye contact whenever you’re speaking to someone and be aware of his or her personal space.
  4. Treat other pageant contestants with respect, the way you would like to be treated.
  5. When seated, cross your ankles not your legs.
  6. Maintain good posture, and keep a smile on your face whenever on stage.
  7. Only sit down when asked or directed to. It’s considered impolite to sit before asked to.
  8. Speak up when spoken to. Talk loudly and punctuate your words so people are able to understand what you’re saying.
  9. When walking, keep your shoulders back and your head up.
  10. If someone shakes your hand, make sure you have a firm handshake.

Practice these pageant etiquettes before pageants, and implement them into your everyday life so you won’t forget about them when it comes time for a pageant. Even when you’re not wearing a wearing a pageant dress, you can still wear your pageant poise. Good luck from everyone here at Pageant Designs!

Proper Ways to Decline a Homecoming Date

Sep 26, 2011

Finding the perfect homecoming dress isn’t the only difficult part about homecoming. Finding a date can be difficult too. Sometimes girls say yes to the first person who asks them, either because they don’t think they’ll have any other offers or because they don’t know how to say no without offending that person. At DressProm.net we urge girls to make the decision that’s best for them, not the person asking them to be their date. There are ways to turn down homecoming suitors without ripping their heart out and stomping on it.

Date or not - you'll still look fab!

Date or not - you'll still look fab!

  1. Be honest with that person about how you feel. In the end, it will save you and your prospective suitor unneeded anxiety during the homecoming dance. They’ll be more hurt if you pretend to want to be their homecoming date.
  2. If you have a friend that you think would be a great homecoming date for him, tell him that you’re not interested, but you know someone who might be.
  3. Tell them that you’re actually planning on going to homecoming stag.
  4. Keep your response short. It’s not polite to give a long excuse as to why you’re not interested.
  5. Tell them that you appreciate the invitation, but haven’t decided who you’re going with yet.

No matter what the case may be, never turn a prom date down via text message, e-mail or through any type of social media, don’t ever laugh in someone’s face after they’ve asked you to homecoming and never talk badly about a person who has asked you to homecoming. When someone has the courage to ask you to be their date for homecoming you should take it as a compliment. Although you may not like them the same way, they obviously think enough of you to ask you to be their date, and most of the time, that’s something that takes a lot of courage to do.
