How Important is Your Ride to Prom?

Jul 18, 2011

How do you plan to arrive at prom?

How do you plan to arrive at prom?

Talk about your “I’d rather die than let that happen to me” situations! When we first heard a group of young ladies were driven to prom in a funeral Cadillac – we were a little frightened!

Turns out the girls had booked a limo, but at Easter, the limo company went out of business – leaving the girls scrambling to find a free limo for the night. Through a series of events, the local funeral home found out and offered these services free of charge!

Here’s a few ways you can hopefully avoid your own limo death ride:

  • Try to book your ride as far in advance as possible. Rides will book up fast in a town with more than one high school and just a few limo services.
  • Go for an untraditional ride! Maybe a funeral car would be the perfect ride to a Halloween themed prom. You could also get a tractor ride for a country theme or rent a horse drawn carriage for the night!

Do you think you’d be able to ride in a funeral car in your prom dress? Or are you just daring enough to arrive to prom in any car?

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Oct 8, 2010

Dress Prom breast cancer awarenessEvery once in a while it’s a good idea to think about a serious issue. That’s why Dress Prom is reminding you that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. As teenage girls, breast cancer might be one of the furthest things from your mind. But it’s something that you really should think about. Breast cancer is less common among women under 40, but it still happens. One of the most important things you can do is learn how to properly perform a breast self-exam.

Except for some types of skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common form of cancer diagnosed in women. Young women that are diagnosed often experience a more aggressive cancer and a lower chance of survival. That’s why it’s imperative that you engage in practices that can help with early detection of the disease. Breast tissue isn’t as thick when you’re younger, so that can make diagnosis of breast cancer difficult. Young women should learn how to do a breast self-exam by the time they’re 20. This ensures that you become familiar with how your breasts look and feel— that will make it easier for you to notice any changes down the line.

Dress Prom wants to wish you a healthy and happy October!

Back to School Trends

Aug 20, 2010

dress prom back to school trendsDress Prom is here when you need to look your best for a special occasion.  But if we know you (and we think we do), then we’re pretty sure that you want to look your best all the time.  So we’ve found some of the hottest back to school trends, and we’re going to share them with you.

  • Jeggings are a cross between jeans and leggings.  You can wear them with tunics or other long shirts.  They are super chic, super cute, and super versatile!
  • Building off of that… flowing wraps and cardigans are another big trend.  They look great with jeggings, so we suppose it makes sense.
  • Plaid is also really in style this season, so you want to make sure you have a cute plaid top.  Pair it up with a cute tank or cami, and you’re good to go.
  • Sweaters are going to be very popular this school season, as well.  Look for classic patterns with stripes and ribs.
  • And there’s always room for a funky accessory or two.  Get a neat charm bracelet or cute necklace.  These are also things that you can wear with your homecoming or prom dress when the time comes!
  • Ballet flats were in last year, and they’re back again.  A cute and comfortable way to dress up any outfit, you can wear them with a skirt or jeggings.

Best wishes for a safe and productive school year!

Sweet 16 Parties: Because You Only Turn 16 Once!

Oct 20, 2009

A 16th birthday is a milestone. It celebrates growing up, while still being able to enjoy the fun days of high school. Sweet 16 birthday parties are growing in popularity, especially with MTV’s “My Super Sweet 16″. Your party budget may not be as elaborate as some of the girls on the show, but your party can be just as fun, with hopefully a lot less drama! Here’s some ways to make your Sweet 16 party an exciting time:

1. Theme It - Having a theme for your Sweet 16 party transforms a party from ordinary into AWESOME! Popular themes include tea parties, glamour and glitz, 80’s parties, spa party, and basically any theme you can think of!

2. Mini Cupcakes are a Must – Have you seen those tiny, pretty gourmet cupcakes? So cute, right? You can find tons of recipes for making your own, and you may even want to have the party go-ers decorate their cupcakes themselves for some extra fun!

3. It’s Fun To Dress Up – Like dressing up? Your Sweet 16 happens only once in your life, so look your best! Check out our Moonlight Homecoming Dresses for dresses that will have you looking so pretty at your Sweet 16.

4. The Invitations - Invitations are your guest’s first impression of the theme and style of your party, so choose with care. Choose invitations that reflect what the actual mood and tone of your party will be like, and of course make sure they have your great personality shining through.

5. Good Music, Great Night – If you’re known for having a great taste in music or have a friend who knows what a good party mix is, create a mix for the night of the party.  This way, you can just play the mix and won’t need to keep going over to your music player. Just be sure to choose songs that reflect the tone and mood of the party.

As long as you plan to have fun at your Sweet 16 party, we know you’ll have a great time. Happy Sweet 16, have an excellent party, and make a wish!
