You’re Not Too Young to Worry About Wrinkles

Aug 5, 2010

Dress Prom get wrinkles out of your dressDon’t worry… we’re not talking about your face!  We’re talking about your prom, homecoming, and pageant dresses.  You might find yourself in a position where you need to wear one of those dresses again, only to find that it’s all wrinkly.  If you have two proms to go to, and you wear the same dress— it might have gotten wrinkled when you packed it up for an after party.  Or perhaps your closet it just so full of pageant dresses that it’s impossible to keep them all neat and wrinkle-free.  So what do you do?  Don’t worry, Dress Prom has a few tips for getting those wrinkles out.

  • Hang the dress up on a plastic hanger and hook it onto something in the bathroom.  The towel bar, the shower curtain rod, the towel bar… whatever you’ve got.  Just make sure the dress isn’t touching the ground.
  • Start the shower up using hot water.  (Make sure the curtain is closed if you’ve decided to hang the dress on the shower rod!)  Shut the bathroom door and run the shower for about five minutes.  Let it get steamy.  (If it’s too steamy for you, just leave the room and wait the five minutes outside.)
  • Shut the shower off, and let the dress hang in the steam-filled room for about a half hour.  The steam should loosen the wrinkles in the dress.
  • Check the dress out.  If you think it’s necessary, repeat the process.

This won’t remove any really deep or set-in wrinkles, but it will certainly give new life to something that’s just a little bit crumpled!

The Benefits of Child Beauty Pageants

Jul 6, 2010

Back when beauty pageants first started, they were reserved for women over the age of 18.  But recently, child beauty pageants have taken on a life of their own.  Open to girls under the age of 12, these beauty pageants have some great DressProm benefits of child beauty pageantsbenefits for the contestants.

  • Little girls often go through their mothers’ closets looking for fun things to wear.  We think of that iconic image of a toddler plodding around in her mommy’s high heels.  Beauty pageants let them know what it’s really like to wear pretty clothes like that.
  • The different rounds in a beauty pageant can allow girls to develop skills that they’ll use later on in life.  The interview portion is probably the most important.  It helps girls learn how to be comfortable speaking in front of a group.  It also gives them an opportunity to express their opinions.  After all, many people fear public speaking more than they fear death.  Pageants give little girls a head start in overcoming that fear.
  • The talent portion works in much the same way.  Each girl finds something she’s good at, and she gets to perform it in front of a crowd.  This is a great way to overcome any type of shyness.

As long as the little girls have well-grounded parents, pageants should be a positive experience for everyone involved!

Be Confident and Wear That Daring Dress

Sep 29, 2009

I recently bought this dress that I absolutely adored – it was an A-line dress with a leopard print heart-shaped neckline, a satin deep pink bow on the side, and a black floaty bottom. The leopard print was a bit daring for my style, but the dress just looked so adorable.

But! About a week before the event, I started to have some doubts – what if the dress was a little too daring for my style, and was more of a miss than a hit? I kept questioning the dress, and nearly returned it for another. I then realized that a personal style isn’t meant to be stationary, and it’s fun to mix up my style and try different clothing personalities. Sure, there’s those famous figures who have such iconic style, but could you imagine dressing in the basically the same type of shirt and jewelry every day? Not for me.

If you’re on the fence between choosing the funky dress or going with a safer style, I urge you to be daring and go for that dashing dress! Sure, you’ll need to muster up some courage, but have confidence that it’ll look great and even if all eyes are on you, they’ll be saying how great you look. Make a splash and have confidence knowing that you’re embracing your adventurous side, and likely encouraging other girls to do the same!

  1. Be sure that you’re always aware of your facial expression and body language. You don’t want to be caught with a grumpy look when the cameras come by.

  2. Be cheerful. After all, you are enjoying this, right?

  3. Don’t try to dress or act beyond your age. Keep everything age appropriate.

  4. Be mindful of your posture and show yourself confidently. No slouching.

  6. Never wear too much makeup, though be mindful of how much you put on if you’re working under very bright lights.

  7. Always have extra outfits in case of wardrobe malfunctions.

  8. Practice, practice, practice. Don’t walk into the pageant thinking you know everything there is to know. Try to learn from it.

  9. Dress beautifully, but let your personality shine. That’s what they’re really judging you for.

  10. Bring a camera and address book. Try to stay connected to other pageant contestants and remember this event!

Dress Tips for Your Body Type: Pear Shaped

Jul 23, 2009

Having full hips isn’t something to hide. It’s something to celebrate. As you start looking for the right prom dress to dance the night away in, remember that it’s important that you dress for your unique shape and get that perfect look that will make the night unforgettable. To help you do that, DressProm.net offers up these great tips for dressing for your pear shape.

First off, know that a-line and full ball gown skirts are your friend. These gorgeous silhouettes will help to balance at your body and celebrate your womanly figure. In addition, they’re some of the most versatile dress types out there. Always avoid hip hugging styles like the sheath or mermaid, which can make you look thick.

Next, look to emphasize your middle and bust by choosing a neckline that’s a spaghetti-strap or a V-neck. Don’t plunge too low and look to instead flatter your collarbone and emphasize your bust. Choose a dress that features most of its detailing above the waist and that helps to slim your torso.

Taking these tips into consideration, DressProm.net has come up with two gorgeous gowns that are perfect for your pear shape:
