10 Tips for Proper Pageant Etiquette

Oct 14, 2011

In order to win a crown, pageant girls have to show the judges that they are poised, proper, educated young women. To do this you must be educated in proper pageant etiquette. Next time you’re standing on stage in your pageant dress, remember to practice winning etiquette.

  1. pageant dress 2012Always be polite. Instead of blurting something out, think about what you’re going to say. Is there anything unladylike about it? Would you be offended, hurt or upset if someone said it to you? If you answered yes to any of those questions, what you’re about to say isn’t polite and so refrain from saying it.
  2. Never forget to say please and thank you. Not only is this an important part of pageant etiquette, saying please and thank you is simply a part of minding your manners.
  3. Maintain eye contact whenever you’re speaking to someone and be aware of his or her personal space.
  4. Treat other pageant contestants with respect, the way you would like to be treated.
  5. When seated, cross your ankles not your legs.
  6. Maintain good posture, and keep a smile on your face whenever on stage.
  7. Only sit down when asked or directed to. It’s considered impolite to sit before asked to.
  8. Speak up when spoken to. Talk loudly and punctuate your words so people are able to understand what you’re saying.
  9. When walking, keep your shoulders back and your head up.
  10. If someone shakes your hand, make sure you have a firm handshake.

Practice these pageant etiquettes before pageants, and implement them into your everyday life so you won’t forget about them when it comes time for a pageant. Even when you’re not wearing a wearing a pageant dress, you can still wear your pageant poise. Good luck from everyone here at Pageant Designs!

The talent portion of a beauty pageant is very important. You’ve already wowed the judges and the audience as you walked across the stage dazzling in your lovely pageant dress. Here are some of our favorite talents, and some things you’ll need to think about concerning each one.pageant talent

Playing the piano

  • When choosing a song to play, ask yourself what you play the best.
  • Is it a piano piece that needs a background orchestral track, or can you play the piece solo?
  • Practice makes perfect. Know the song inside and out.

Gymnastic performance

  • When you chose to highlight your talent as a gymnast, don’t attempt to learn a new routine or try to perfect a newly learned move specifically for the pageant. You’ll be nervous and more likely to mess up during your performance.
  • Practice the choreographed routine numerous times.
  • Which outfit will your wear?

Singing

  • The most important thing to consider is what song you’ll sing.
  • Try a different approach when singing, and impress the judges by performing the song in sign language too.
  • Choose a pageantry dress that allows you to easily walk around the stage while wearing it.

Dancing

  • Choose the appropriate style of dance for the song you choose.
  • Think of a creative song and dance, such as Thriller by Michael Jackson.
  • Your outfit should allow you to move freely when dancing.

Some other talent ideas include playing an instrument other than the piano, performing a comedy act, baton twirling, performing karate, the list goes on and on. What is your talent?

Transforming your Toddler from a Pageant Princess to a Queen

Aug 19, 2011

Some of the best beauty pageants are toddler pageants. Who wouldn’t want to watch an adorable, smiling child walk across stage in a beautiful pageant dress? This is especially true when she’s holding a trophy or wearing a crown! Here are some words of advice to help your little pageant princess become a pageant queen.

  1. little girls pageant dressMake sure the dress you choose is appropriate for a toddler.
  2. Let your child make some pageant decisions. You don’t have to let her choose her pageant dress, but let her pick the color or a barrette for her hair.
  3. A pageant dress should reflect the contestant’s interests and allow her personality to stand out.
  4. Don’t let accessories distract from the pageant dress! Focus specifically on shoes, socks, and a belt or a chocker if needed.
  5. Pageant hairstyles can vary, but whatever hairstyle you go with, make sure to leave enough room for a tiara.
  6. Make sure your child knows she has to smile when she’s on stage. The more upbeat and happy a contestant is on stage, the better. Judges look at a contestant’s appearance, personality, and smile.
  7. Keep in mind that the judges also take notice to the reactions of audience members.
  8. Keeping a child happy when she’s not on stage can help her to be happy when she is on stage. Always pack a favorite toy for her to play with backstage.
  9. If you smile and have a good attitude, so will your child. Even if she doesn’t win, teach your child the right way to behave by doing so yourself. You’ll be teaching her how to play fair and how to be a good loser.
  10. Before a pageant, have your child practice walking across stage, her talent, and her poise in front of a crowd of family members. This will help her overcome stage fright and remember what she has to do on stage.

While all of this is important when competing in a toddler beauty pageant, the most important part of a pageant is having fun. Good luck from all of us here at PageantDesigns.com!

Lead a Healthy Pageant Lifestyle

Aug 12, 2011

fit for pageantsIn order to look as good as possible in your pageant dress you have to exercise, eat right, and stay healthy. Please note, we don’t mean to stop eating altogether; that is nowhere near staying healthy! By eating right we mean: eating the right foods. Here is some advice on exercising, eating right, and staying healthy for pageants.

  • Instead of filling your diet with refined sugars and carbohydrates start eating high protein foods such as egg whites and fish. You should also eat green vegetables and fresh fruit.
  • Eat healthy everyday, and not just on or around a pageant day.
  • Base the size and frequency of meals on your day to day life. If you’re active and busy from day to day, then you should be consuming more calories than if you weren’t moving around as much.
  • Make sure you drink plenty of water throughout the day. More than half of our body weight is water, and when we don’t drink our bodies begin to retain water causing us to gain weight. In addition, drinking water helps to make you less hungry.
  • Cardio training is one of the best exercises to prevent weight gain and lower body fat. We recommend 30 minutes to an hour of cardio exercise each day.
  • If you’re having a difficult time sticking to scheduled exercise routines then try exercising with a friend, or listening to your favorite music while you work out.

Sticking to regular exercise routines and eating healthy will keep you in shape all year round. Find a way to make healthy living fun for you, and it won’t seem like a chore. Good luck from all of us at PageantDesigns.com!

Summer Picnic Beauty Pageants

Jul 14, 2011

Your dress should always flatter you and make you look your best!

Your dress should always flatter and make you look your best!

It’s summer time, and that means festivals, carnivals and picnics are taking place all over the country. Some of these festivities offer beauty pageants for both younger and older girls. You don’t need to spend a fortune to shine your way to a crown in the local fair. Here are some beauty pageant tips from PageantDesigns.com that will have you smiling from ear to ear.

  • Choose a talent that you know you’re good at. Don’t choose something you’ve never done before because you think it will be neat to learn something new.
  • The more clubs and activities you’re involved in, either in or out of school, the better. The same goes for awards and being actively involved in your church and community.
  • You don’t have to spend a fortune on your dress. In fact, you should buy something you’ll probably wear again. The dress should allow you to walk easily and should flatter your body. Choose something fun, in a color that suits your personality and tastes. There are many choices at Pageant Designs.
  • Remember to always smile!!

Here are some ways for parents to help toddlers compete and win in a beauty pageant without spending beyond their means.

  • There’s no need to spend a ton of money on a glitzy dress. If competing in a small town festival pageant, check the rules and guidelines, most of the time they want toddlers to wear simple dresses and clothes. Choose from any of the options over at Pageant Designs.
  • Encourage big smiles and bubbly attitudes. A silly attitude on stage is better than standing still and not doing anything. You can always show a child’s personality by having them wave or carry a favorite doll with them.
  • Choose shoes they’ll be comfortable walking in.

Always remember to have fun. No matter if you win or lose, if you love competing you have to get back up and try again. Beauty pageants aren’t only about competition and pageant dresses; they’re a way to express your intelligence, opinions and talents.

Confidence is the Key to Pageant Success

Jul 7, 2011

Mysterious sight of the girl

Confidence, a winning smile and the crown can be yours!

One of the most important qualities of pageant winners is confidence. People can sense when you aren’t confident with yourself. It shows in the way you walk, the expressions on your face, your smile, posture, and even the way you wear your clothes. In order to win the crown, you need to hold you head high and pretend it’s already on top of you head. These tips will help you remain confident and bring you closer to pageant success.

  • Always smile.
  • You should look the judges in the eyes, but if you find that difficult you can look at their foreheads.
  • You don’t have to spend a fortune on a pageant gown. All you need is a gown that sparkles when you’re on the stage, and makes you feel and look good.
  • Choose a dress that fits you correctly. The color should also bring out your personality. When choosing a dress, consider your hairstyle, make-up, skin conditions – tan lines, height, weight, posture, ability to walk on stage, ability to walk up and down steps, the type of shoes you’ll need, and accessories.
  • Do not over accessorize. Keep jewelry at a minimum.
  • Never compare yourself to the other contestants. You are only being judged on you. Picking out qualities they have that you don’t believe you have will only make you less confident. Besides, you may not think you have those qualities, but the judges may think differently.
  • Be up to date with what is going on in the news and other current events.
  • Good posture is very important. Keep your shoulders back and hold your head high.
  • Remember, your hair is your crowning glory and can make or break your appearance.
  • Be honest with the judges.
  • Never give up. Most likely, you’ll lose more times than you’ll win. You need to hold your head high and keep trying. After losing a pageant think of ways you can improve for the next pageant.

Keeps these tips in mind next time you’re walking across the stage, answering a question or choosing a dress and you’ll be well on your way to winning a crown. Good luck from all of us at PageantDesigns.com

Teen Beauty Pageant Tips

Look and feel your best

Look and feel your best

Whether you’re a seasoned pageant veteran or a new kid on the block, there are a few things that you should always keep in mind when you’re competing in a pageant.  Here at Dress Prom, we want you to do your best—and that all starts on the inside.

  • First of all, keep smiling!  Not only do you feel better when you smile, you don’t want to get caught with a grumpy look on your face.
  • Be bright and bubbly.  Even if you don’t win the pageant, there’s always Miss Congeniality.  (And that might get you further in life!  Everyone loves a friendly woman.)
  • Keep your attire age appropriate.  Don’t try and act or dress older than you are.  You’re a teen—it’s time to have fun.
  • Don’t stand with your arms hanging down and your hands holding each other in front.  That doesn’t look professional—and the judges will point that out.
  • Remember your posture.  Keep your head up and your shoulders back.  It’s a good idea to pretend you’re hanging from a hook on the back of your neck.  If you’re confident on the inside, it will show on the outside!
  • Make friends with the other contestants.  It’s helpful to make friends and network.
  • Don’t wear too much makeup.  Wear enough that it shows up under the lights, but don’t cake it on.
  • Have extra pageant gowns and pageant dresses.  You never know what might happen.

Have fun!

Evening Gown Competition Tips

You'll feel glamorous in our pageant dresses

You'll feel glamorous in our pageant dresses

When you step out on the pageant stage, you need to feel confident in your pageant gown. But what are the judges looking for?  The evening gown competition is the most glamorous event in the pageant, and it provides entrants with the opportunity to look absolutely beautiful.  Every pageant is different, and judges are always looking for different things.  For instance, bigger beauty pageants like Miss USA and Miss Teen USA look for things like beauty, glamor, fashion, charisma, and poise.  Pageants that offer scholarships tend to emphasize a more classic beauty, elegance, grace, and poise. But there are certain things that are basically universal.

The specific scope for each pageant will vary, but some qualities that judges consider can include:
•    Their first impressions of you
•    The beauty of your face and your figure
•    Your poise, presence, and composure
•    The appropriate image for the specific pageant
•    That your attire is appropriate for your age
•    That your gown compliments you!
•    Posture, carriage, walk, and modeling technique
•    Proper fit of your gown
•    And your overall appearance

When you get your pageant gown from DressProm.net, you can be sure to pick a winner!
