Choosing The Perfect Dress For Holiday Parties

Dec 19, 2011

With Christmas fast approaching, and New Year’s Day directly afterwards, you’re bound to be invited to parties and other events – don’t refuse an invitation because you don’t know what to wear! Accept the invitation, and dress to impress with these helpful holiday dress ideas!asymmetrical dress

  • Cocktail dresses have always been “in,” but wearing an asymmetrical dress with one shoulder in a neutral color will make you stand out in a sea of green and red.
  • Channel your inner Santa with a deep scarlet shade dress – make this dress pop by choosing one with an embellished neckline or a sparkled skirt.
  • Wear a silver sequined shrug or cardigan over your favorite little black dress. If you want to stand out, ditch the silver sequins and choose a bright color like green or red.
  • An off the shoulder dress gives you a sexy air of elegance.
  • Feel luxurious as you show off your curves in a satin dress. There’s something about satin that makes a woman feel amazing.
  • Velvet is another material that can transform you as soon as you put it on. Think a dark red, thigh length dress made of velvet.
  • A sparkled dress can take you from looking like a plain Jane to being the glamorous fashionable icon in the center of the dance floor.
  • Don’t settle for any color green, choose a teal or emerald green dress and you’ll be the belle of the holiday ball.
  • Twirl around the dance floor in a dress decorated with ruffles, ribbons, bows or lace. Just make sure you don’t choose a dress with all four!

You can find these and many other hot holiday dresses at DressProm.net. Happy holidays from DressProm.net!

Ruffles and hearts for Valentine's Day

Ruffles and hearts for Valentine's Day

Now that we’re into the New Year, it’s time to start planning those Valentine’s Day dances!  Many of the short cocktail dresses here at Dress Prom are perfect for the laid back and romantic atmosphere of a Valentine’s Day dance.  Here are a few tips for making the most of this season of love!  We’re sure many of you are involved in your school’s planning committee or student council—so bring these ideas to the next meeting!

If you choose a traditionally themed Valentine’s Day dance, make sure you get the right décor.  It’s all about building the right ambiance to set the mood.  The color palette, of course, will be red, pink, and white.  Make sure you include some roses, too!

Hang hearts on the wall.  You can also include some red and pink streamers.  Have balloons in your chosen colors, like balloon clusters or a balloon archway at the entrance to the dance hall.

Before you make any decisions, you need to have a firm theme in mind.  For instance, a theme idea might be a “Singles’ Valentine’s Day Dance.”  A dance like that would encourage mingling and meeting new people.

No matter what your Valentine’s Day dance entails, you can find the right attire here at Dress Prom.  We’ve got the gorgeous pink and red cocktail dresses you need to make a real splash!

Some Christmas party themes might focus on countries or cultures.  For example, you could have a party with a European theme.  Have a party that focuses on England and Scotland, and you can cook traditional English holiday dishes.

Old movies and Christmas stories can also be a great theme.  Rent some holiday movies to have playing on a big screen during the festivities.

You could even have a Christmas tree trimming party!  Give your party a purpose—you could have a gift giving party for the needy or a fundraiser.  Spread the cheer as far as it can go this holiday season.

Whatever you decide to do for your Christmas party, you know you can do it in style with a dress from Dress Prom!

Accessorize Your Cocktail Dress for a Graduation Party

May 26, 2010

earringsSchool’s out for summer, and that means it’s graduation season.  And graduation season can only mean one thing:  parties!  When you go to a graduation party, you want to look your best.  Lots of people have their parties in the evening, so you’ll want to dress up a little bit.  You don’t have to go crazy— prom was last month!  Here are some tips about how to make a cocktail dress look elegant and classy for some of those graduation parties.

  • Find a great pair of earrings.  You can always go with a great pair of drop earrings.  The dress is short, so your earrings can be long!
  • The necklace is really up to you.  If you’re feeling funky, go with something that has a big pendant.  If not, you can just go with something simple.  But earrings and a necklace often go hand in hand, so don’t wear one without the other.
  • If you’re comfortable wearing bracelets, this is the perfect opportunity!  Ideally, it would be great to wear a bracelet that matched your earrings.  A simple tennis bracelet always works.
  • You’ll need a good handbag.  Hopefully you held on to your little clutch purse from prom.  It’s great for times like this.  It’s just big enough for the essentials.  With a cocktail dress, you want to avoid any purse with a strap.  It just ends up looking bulky.
  • You can wear cute ballet flats with your cocktail dress.  If it’s a casual party, you can even get away with a nice pair of flip flops!  It’s all about looking cute and being yourself.

Have fun this graduation season.  Everyone here at DressProm.net congratulates you on a school year well done!

Be Confident and Wear That Daring Dress

Sep 29, 2009

I recently bought this dress that I absolutely adored – it was an A-line dress with a leopard print heart-shaped neckline, a satin deep pink bow on the side, and a black floaty bottom. The leopard print was a bit daring for my style, but the dress just looked so adorable.

But! About a week before the event, I started to have some doubts – what if the dress was a little too daring for my style, and was more of a miss than a hit? I kept questioning the dress, and nearly returned it for another. I then realized that a personal style isn’t meant to be stationary, and it’s fun to mix up my style and try different clothing personalities. Sure, there’s those famous figures who have such iconic style, but could you imagine dressing in the basically the same type of shirt and jewelry every day? Not for me.

If you’re on the fence between choosing the funky dress or going with a safer style, I urge you to be daring and go for that dashing dress! Sure, you’ll need to muster up some courage, but have confidence that it’ll look great and even if all eyes are on you, they’ll be saying how great you look. Make a splash and have confidence knowing that you’re embracing your adventurous side, and likely encouraging other girls to do the same!

Homecoming Dress Trends You Won’t Want to Miss

Jul 23, 2009

Fall may still be a few months off, but that doesn’t mean you can’t start thinking about dressing for homecoming now. At DressProm.net, we want to keep you ahead of the curve and on top of all of the latest trends in prom and homecoming fashion. This fall, as most girls look through the department stores and dress shops for what they think is the latest trend, you can feel confident in knowing that you’re really on the cutting edge. Follow these homecoming dress trends that are right off the runway to get the look you want, just in time for the season.

Short
This trend has been around for the past few seasons, but not to worry, it’s still a fashion forward style this year. Be sure that you choose a short cocktail dress made from a luxe fabric in a flattering fit. Don’t go too short or too tight. It’s all about looking elegant and modern.

Asymmetrical
One strap or asymmetrical dress styles are going to be a huge trend. This style of dress has already made quite a splash on the red carpets, but this year, you can bring it right to your high school. If you were already planning on choosing a strapless style, reconsider and go for a one strap style that’s sophisticated and sexy.

Cinched Waists
Accent your slim figure with a cinched waist style homecoming dress. Look for a dress that offers enough support and has enough structure to keep your figure looking lean and trim. Also, don’t be afraid to play around with different fabrics, including satins and chiffons.
