2017 Prom Style: Mermaid Dresses

May 1, 2017

Are you looking for a way to show off your figure without showing too much skin at prom this year? If so, a mermaid silhouette prom dress may be just the thing for you. While this lovely, curve-hugging style is inspired by vintage fashion, it is perfectly on trend and one of the most popular choices for prom 2017. The mermaid silhouette is created with a tight bodice and a long skirt that is form-fitting down to the knees or calves, where it dramatically flares out like the fins of a mermaid’s tail.

Mermaid silhouette prom dresses come in a wide variety of different colors, patterns and fabrics and feature several different types of embellishments. We carry some of the hottest mermaid dresses from the trendiest designers at DressProm.net. Take a look at the different options to see this flattering silhouette paired with some of this season’s other popular trends such as high necklines, two-piece crop top dresses, cut outs and floral prints. You’ll also find more classic styles and colors like tulle skirts, black dresses and solid-colored satin.

Rock some of this year’s hottest trends all in one dress with this Two Piece Prom Gown by Rachel Allan. It features a mermaid tail skirt in a floral print with a matching cropped top, a high neckline, cut outs and sequin embellishments. This dress is a knockout with large, beautiful Dogwood blossoms adorning the skirt paired with a flirty top.

Great Gatsby and Other Themed Dresses for 2017

Apr 14, 2017

For the girl with a flair for the dramatic, you may want to go with a themed prom dress for your big prom night. You can choose to go all out with your theme by pairing your dress with matching accessories, or just stick to a subtle theme that will help you to stand out while still staying on trend. DressProm carries a wide selection of great themed prom dresses, but these are a few of our favorites.

  • “The Great Gatsby”. The Roaring ‘20s styles of “Gatsby” are always some of our most popular, but this theme has seen even more popularity in recent years. If you want to create a glamorous flapper style that Daisy Buchanan would be proud of, check out DressProm’s selection of “Great Gatsby” dresses featuring beads, sequins and feathers galore. These dresses feature shorter hemlines and shift shapes, as well as the occasional floor length with Art Deco details. No matter which type you choose, you’ll look like you’re ready to head to the speakeasy in your flapper frock.
  • “Alice in Wonderland”. Literary buffs will also adore the down-the-rabbit-hole stylings of DressProm’s “Alice”-themed dresses. These colorful, whimsical frocks perfectly embody the Queen of Hearts or even Alice herself with their bright, bold shades, wide, flared skirts and large prints and patterns.
  • Carnival. For a truly larger-than-life dress theme, try out one of DressProm’s popular carnival dresses. These are reminiscent of the costumes carnival performers wear because of their swirls of pastel colors, ruffled details and long, flowing skirts.
  • Hollywood. Want to look like you just stepped off of the red carpet? Then slip into one of DressProm’s Hollywood-influenced prom dresses. These fancy frocks are fit for a starlet with their gold or jewel tones, sequined details and long, dramatic lengths.

  • Setting ticket prices

  • Decorating

The Most Important Prom-Planning Points

Candyland

  • Pick a Theme! — OK, this is the fun part! The theme you choose totally determines all of your other prom-planning essentials, so you’ve got to pick your theme early. We love classic themes like Hollywood (because who doesn’t want a real red carpet at prom?) and Paris, but you can get creative with out-of-the-box 2017 prom themes like neon, carnival or candyland. Bonus: you can shop DressProm.net for your prom dress by theme for the perfect wardrobe.
  • Pick a Venue — Your venue should be guided by your theme, not the other way around. Early on in the prom-planning process, you need to establish a venue budget. Once you’ve got that squared away, you should start scouting venues. Make sure to have your venue booked at least six months in advance.
  • Nail Down Décor — Tip No. 1 for prom decorations: get cozy with the theater department. If you’re going for a place theme (like Paris, New York or Hollywood), then your school probably has some useful set decorations from plays past. You can also plan décor parties and make your own decorations at home.
  • Book Entertainment — Make sure to properly vet your DJ or live band, because there’s no prom disaster quite like having lame music! Book your entertainment at least three months in advance, and start researching at least six months in advance to make sure that your top choices aren’t booked on prom night.
