Dressing A Bottom-Heavy Figure

Jan 24, 2011

We’ve got prom dresses here for girls with every body type.  We want to make sure that you can find the dress or gown you’re looking for right here at Dress Prom.  We have a few tips to help you dress your figure.  Here are just a few ways to enhance your look if you happen to have a bottom-heavy shape.  In other words, you’re the classic “pear.”  It’s easier than you think to look totally spectacular.

  • Balance your figure with color and fitted pieces.  Wear a fitted jacket on the top that’s the same or similar color as a looser skirt on the bottom.  This look is great for casual winter dances.
  • There’s a phrase you should always remember:  Fit and flare.  Keep it fitted on the top, and let it flare out at the bottom.  A-line is perfect for you.
  • Wear patterns or prints on your smallest feature.  This will draw attention up and away from your heavier bottom half.
  • Look for dresses with a raised waist.  An empire waist accentuates your smallest part.  That’s what you’re looking for in a prom dress!
  • Pick a pretty neckline.  Again, it’s all about looking for ways to draw attention upwards.
  • Try a look that’s light on the top and dark on the bottom!  Classic and chic.

Fall 2010 Dress Trends

Sep 3, 2010

fall formal dress promWe don’t like to think about it, either, but we have to admit that autumn is just around the corner.  Back to school season is in full swing, and it’s time to start thinking about your fall formal dresses.  There are lots of fun trends out there, and Dress Prom is here to keep you on the cutting edge of all things formal (and semi formal, of course).

We know that you like to look pretty all of the time, so we’re going to talk about trends for casual everyday dresses, too.  For casual occasions like this, it’s smart not to go overboard.  Casual dresses can be a little shorter to show off your legs.  Or you could opt for a longer dress with a bigger pattern.  You can pair casual dresses with some subdued accessories.  The key is to look casual and chic— not overdone.

Cocktail dresses are an important part of your semi formal wardrobe.  These dresses bridge the gap between casual and formal, so it’s important to choose a style that fits your body type.  You could try a tight-fitting dress with a simple design.  Avoid too many embellishments, since they might make the dress a little too formal.  Feathers and fur (or faux fur) are hot accessories for this season.

A fall evening formal dress should have a sophisticated design.  Choose darker colors like black, blue, or copper.

First off, sparkle like a beautiful snowflake in this gown by Riva in a soft blue. This formal dress features a sweetheart neckline with spaghetti straps on a sequined and jewel encrusted bodice that has just the right amount of glam. As for the back, it’s sleek and sexy with corset-style lacingSnowBallShoe that compliments the full skirt. Simply stunning. To accessorize, slip on a simple pair of diamond or rhinestone studs. Your dress is going to do all the talking.

For shoes, go with this beautiful pair of heels from Harmony. Since the gown is all about glitter, you want to keep your shoes simple, but not too plain. These prom shoes offer just the right amount of sparkle with rhinestone detailing and a shimmering silver make.

Now it’s time for hair. Winter hairstyles are all about being sleek and stylish, so think about fashioning your locks into an elegant chignon complimented with a sparkling hair clip.
